Skype with video for the ipod and iphone

Finally it is here. Finally being the key word here. Skype has launched the video calling function for the ipod4 and iphone4  – ios4. Did a test run the whole day and the signal isvery smooth. The quality is not all that amazing. I think Facetime has a relatively better quality than what skype has. But its just released and there is sure going to be heaps of development from this stage on. Download the app and check it out for yourself. For those who have been waiting for this app its like a sunny day after weeks of the storm. The group video calling which was launched a few months earlier to this was excellent but a little low on quality as well. And moreover you had to pay for it if you wanted to use it for more than 30 days.

Below is what the display looks like according to a screenshot from skype.

It is almost like Facetime in many ways where features are considered. You can flip the camera both ways and record video.

Its even got a video call button!

These are the system requirements for the video skype app:

  • Skype video calling requires iOS 4.0 or above.
  • Send and receive video using front or rear camera on iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th Generation.
  • Send and receive video using rear camera on iPhone 3GS.
  • Receive video only on iPad and iPod touch 3rd Generation.**
